myFABfind: Taking Casual Friday to Casual Date Night

My office is VERY casual. I could wear jeans to work Monday through Friday if I wanted. I usually wear trousers or a skirt with a cami and jacket. My way of shaking things up in this environment is with a cute handbag and shoes. When I do wear jeans, it’s usually on a Friday and I never pair them with sneakers. I just can’t.

Tonight I will be going to a comedy show with the hubs and will not have time to change if I want to get there on time in this DFW traffic. So today’s look must take me from very casual office to date night and I MUST be comfortable.

myFABfind:  Last week I had to stop my Sam’s Club to pick up a cake for the office. While waiting on them to find our order, I stumbled across a table with Seven 7 brand jeans and tees. “How cute,” I thought. And the price tag was even cuter! The tee with the bling accent pocket was only $12. The bling accent pocket jeans…. $20! I could not believe it. And these jeans feel and fit soooooooo freaking good. I’m so glad I grabbed this set.

I paired the set with these flirty Vince Camuto peep toe booties. These are from Macy’s and I think I caught them on sale for under $149. I threw on the beige jacket just to “office it up” for work, but I’m not sure about wearing it to the show tonight. I think I will carry it in just in case it’s chilly. I have no idea where I got it. I’m sure I was dirt cheap. I would guess that I paid $19.99 or LESS for it and probably from TJ Maxx or some place like that.

To add a pop of color to all of that blue, I’m carrying a bag in my FABfave color… PINK of course! My blue gradient aviators are a must. Handbag: Dooney & Bourke (gift).  Aviators: Ray Ban, $150.

I think I did pretty well with the $32 ensemble and pieces that I already owned. I look presentable in a office where my co-workers are wearing jeans and sneakers and yet cute enough to go on my date to see comedian Lavell Crawford. Now I’m ready to get off from work. 😁 Happy Friday!!

This ‘Ain’t’ Your Mama’s KitchenAid!

About a month ago, I purchased my very first KitchenAid stand mixer. I have enjoyed a Kitchen Aid hand mixer for many years (and have owned other brands of stand mixers), but never took the plunge for the KitchenAid stand mixer.

One day one of my FABfave Shopping networks, QVC, had the KitchenAid stand mixer as their Today’s Special Value. It came with two mixing bowls, an additional paddle attachment, and the much sought after splatter shield. The icing on the cake… they had it in the color cranberry, aka HOT PINK! My Sorors know that I had to have that pink mixer!

Since it has arrived I have been a baking fool. From breads, to cakes, to cookies, and more. I have been having a blast with my KitchenAid. That is until I saw Ree Drummond, “The Pioneer Woman” on TV with the cutest KA mixer ever! “I MUST have that,” I thought. I researched and it was a $500 custom paint job. Thanks but no thanks. *insert my giving Ree the side eye here* Here is her amazing mixer.

I was NOT going to pay $500 to trick out my mixer, but was determined to find that look for less. I went on Google, Pinterest, eBay, everywhere. Somehow I came across some ideas on Etsy. This is where I hit the jackpot! Look at my mixer now…

How did I do it? Want the deets? Of course I’m going to share!

FABchic For Cheap Double Edition: Boots and Bags

20130906-093512.jpg

You would have to have been living under a rock if you don’t know that the ankle boot is trending majorly this fall. Ankle boots/shoe boots/booties are in every fashion magazine, blog… just EVERYWHERE.

Last week I stopped by a few stores on my way home from the gym looking for FABfinds. While I have a slue of ankle boots in my closet from years gone by, it never hurts for a gal to have a new pair of shoes!

Near my gym, is what I call my “budget corridor.” There is a strip mall area with a TJ Maxx *FABfave,* Marshall’s, Steinmart, DSW, and a Ross. Since I stop by the TJ Maxx and Marshall’s every other day, I chose to go to Ross.

Of all of the stores in my bargain corridor, Ross is my least favorite because of its presentation. It’s usually not neat and reminds me of a junk shoppe. I go by there every now and then. When I do, I make a b-line straight to the shoe section. Saturday was my lucky day because I scored those black suede stiletto ankle boots for *insert drum roll here* $18.99! I already have several ensembles in mind to rock with them and I canNOT wait!

After snatching up theses shoes, my handbag rep, Rebecca from Macy’s, called me a about a robin blue Coach bag that I had inquired about. The style is the medium Candace Carryall in the Legacy leather. It retails for $398. Rebecca told me that there was one left in Texas. She provided me with a sku, the phone number to a store in another city, and a discount code. I was able to snag this bag for UNDER $200! *Thanks Rebecca* I’m alway telling people to get a contact person at your FABfave handbag stores. The sales reps work on commission a lot of the times and are happy to give you the heads up on sales, discounts, availability, and more. A little effort is worth it! Note to self: Write a thank you note to Rebecca.<~Yes, the 'Thank You' note… hand written. Just do it! 🙂

Really Emma Fox?

This past weekend was tax free in Texas. While on the hunt for bargains, I came across one of my FABfaves… A black version of my Emma Fox fold over tote. This bag retails for $298, but I snagged it for $129.99. Cha-Ching!

I have this same handbag in a soft mustard color. I get compliments every time I carry it. One thing that did not dawn on me, for some reason, was the fact that neither bag came with a dust bag. All of my other brand name bags came with one, but not these.

“Perhaps it’s because I purchased them at TJ Maxx and Marshall’s,” was was my first thought. Then I did a quick Google search and came across many posts, comments, etc. about Emma Fox bags not coming with a dust bag. *gasps* What tha? All of my better quality bags have dust bags… from my LV bags, to my Gucci bags, to my Michael Kors and Dooney & Burke bags to even my BeBe and Coach bags. Emma Fox, this is unacceptable!

My brain immediately started to click. I went online to eBay and wholesaler websites in search of dust bags not only for my Emma Fox bags, but any bag in my closet that did not have one. I could not believe what I was seeing. Dust bags from $10 each to over $50 each. I was not paying that. I found myself getting pissed that Emma Fox did not provide me with a dust bag for my $298/$129.99 investment. Really Emma Fox?

My next thought was to make some. But by the time I purchase fabric, string to draw it close, and thread for my sewing machine, I may as well buy the ones I saw online. Then the light bulb in my head turned on… and quite brightly might I add. It’s back to school time, which means that places like Target and Walmart would be selling laundry bags for around $5 or so. But who would sell a laundry bag that’s on the small side and not too thick or heavy? Dollar Tree! I went today on my launch break and this is what I found:

This bag came in beige, blue, and burgundy. I opted for the beige. After all they were cheap and I was not sure if the color would bleed onto other things in my closet, not to mention my handbags. I also was not sure of the size, but for $1 each, I bought all of the beige ones that I saw.

This is what the bag looks like out of the package. It even has an outer slip pocket, which I thought was nice.

This is what the bag looks like with my black Emma Fox handbag inside:

I am very pleased with these “dust bags.” These low quality, draw string laundry bags with the outer slip pocket worked out perfectly. This is a very inexpensive way to protect my investment. And to think that my coworker suggested pillowcases… which would have worked, but pillowcases don’t have a drawstring closure. This is better!

FABchic for Cheap: mrsFAB’s iPhone Bling

20130615-132320.jpg

Anyone that knows me knows the I am an Apple geek and that I LOVE my iPhone. I get every model that comes out. Since I do get every model, I don’t like to spend a lot on cute cases.

Why would I not want to get the best case to protect my investment? Well, I do spring for a good and sturdy case for traveling. Usually my go-to travel case will be by Speck. I can’t stand those bulky Otter boxes. I am not putting that clunky mess on my sleek and magical iPhone.

Now for everyday, I like cute, thin girlie cases that don’t add a lot of bulk. Pictured is my newest addition. I got it from my go-to iPhone case place… eBay!

This is the luxury chrome hollow pattern case (bling silver). It was only $4.99 and it’s from an American seller.

I had a version of this case in plain chrome, but I dropped my phone at a Rangers’ game and the case broke. My phone was not damaged in any way. I was impressed that a cheap case ($3.49 for the plain one) actually protected my phone. I had to get another because it was so cute.

I went back to eBay and found the same case, but also this one with little clear rhinestones. I had to have it! It only took a few days to arrive and once again my iPhone 5 is FABulous! If you want to get this case click here. Make sure to give the seller a good rating and tell him that mrsFAB sent ya!
